We wanted to answer some questions about ourselves in order to strengthen our communication with all of you! We believe that you will get to know us much better with our answers!
Our first teammate who answered the questions is Umut Çomak.
First, can you talk about yourself? Who are you?
Hi, as you already see my name is Umut. I’m 23 years old and I’m one of the founders of Dream Realm Storytellers in several years ago. I graduated from Atılım University, Public Relationship and Advertisement. I developed my graphic design skills in school while studying and working at the same time. Currently, I’m studying for my master’s degree at Ankara University in Media and Communication Studies
You are a geek of what?
As all of our team, I’m a geek of many things. Of course, the number one is TTRPG. I haven’t enjoyed anything as much as playing TTRPG. Also, I really love to read TTRPG books such as World of Darkness, A-DnD, Ravenloft, Call of Cthulhu and more… Other than TTRPG, I love watching movies, reading books and comics and Warhammer 40K. Yes, I am a huge fan of Warhammer 40K.
“Only in death does duty end”
What is your active duty in Dream Realm Storytellers?
Dream Realm Storytellers is not only a job for me. I remember when I was a university student and try to make conventions, summer TTRPG camps in Turkey with Dream Realm Storytellers. In those days Dream Realm Storytellers was a family for me. It still is. Thus, my job does not start at 9 AM and finish at 6 PM. That is why I am working on so many things in Dream Realm Storytellers.
DRS aims to provide a new paradigm in the TTRPG industry. That is why we need to know everything in the market. I always search for crowdfunding projects and make inferences. With those inferences, I create new project ideas.
I am a professional graphic and web designer and I do every graphic and web work for DRS.
Maybe some of the readers know. I am doing maps and dungeons for our Untold Stories books. I’m kind of new to this but lots of folks in Reddit like my maps and dungeons and I am one of the narrative designers in the DRS.
My other job is marketing. As a very indie studio, we need to know our steps and sometimes marketing is one of the biggest steps. We are considering different marketing methods for each project and we are starting to implement them.
What was/is your job in Svilland?
I am the project manager of the Svilland. For the first time in my life, Svilland is such a great job to manage and a great responsibility. So far and after the release, I will manage every process that Svilland includes.
As I mentioned above, I made the graphic design works that include Kickstarter page design, logo, some of the interior arts in the book such as god signs, kingdoms’ flags etc.
Currently, I am handling the layout of the book. It goes well and everybody liked it! It’s a great honour for me. My skills have improved a lot with Svilland.
What has challenged you the most in this process?
You know we are not from the USA and our country is not a part of EU. We have encountered difficulties in serving people from a completely foreign country for them. Kickstarter is all about trust. If people trust your product and you, they will definitely fund your project. We worked hard to establish that trust. Thanks to the TTRPG society and industry they welcomed us. Love you all guys!
Another thing was the capital. Like other indie TTRPG studios, we had no capital before Svilland and our Turkish Lira very weak in the global economy. In those times very small amounts of dollars could be big money for us.
What do you think about the future?
Dream Realm Storytellers promises a great future. The whole team is working hard for this. We are also focusing different tabletop mediums. Everything we will do in 2019 has already been announced in a blog post and 2020’s plans have already begun to take shape. We believe that we will provide lots of projects. Don’t forget to follow us!
Please give a spoiler to the readers.
Of course, we state the Journey Guide: Horror in our 2019 plans. The project will soon be on Kickstarter, but this is a card project. And the logo of the project is ready!
